Before and after scalp micropigmentation, the main steps

Table of contents
Primary Item (H2)

What will I read in this article about the main steps of scalp micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation is much more than a paramedical treatment, in many ways it’s a work of art that gives people back the self-confidence they need.
So, your work of smp artist carries with it a great responsibility.
To achieve a great result and get clients to smile again, it is important before and after scalp micropigmentation to follow the main steps of the procedure.

Keep reading the article and find out them.

Before the scalp micropigmentation

Before scalp micropigmentation, people usually want to make an appointment for a consult.

The initial consult is very important for the client, but also for the smp artist. As smp expert, you have the opportunity to show your preparation, drive out all client’s doubts and earn his trust.

Therefore, the first step will be to welcome the client in a comfortable and professional setup. Then, you should ask a series of questions to find out whether there are conditions to carry out smp. Also about possible allergies or intolerances.

When the person thinks that he/she may have allergic reactions, you can do a patch test to eliminate the risk.

If the client has all the requirements for scalp micropigmentation and wishes to solve his balding problem, you can start by:

  1. defining his or her hair line according to his face morphology;
  2. choosing the pigment and technique best suited to his needs;
  3. finally set a date for the first session.

Don’t forget to give a set of instructions that must be observed before the smp procedure, like for example:

  • No blood thinners at least ten days before the treatment;
  • Avoid sun exposition;
  • Reduce caffeine;
  • Avoid smoking at least two hours before smp session.

During the smp

Using a smp-specific needle, the scalp micropigmentation artist deposits pigment on the desired areas of the scalp. The dots vary in size, angle and depth to provide a natural look.

Typically, scalp micropigmentation treatment requires 3 sessions, performed several weeks apart. Each treatment adds more pigment to create the appearance of thick hair.

If during the consult the smp artist defines the technique and hairline, the first session takes between 2 and 5 hours, depending on the size of the area to be treated. With it the bulk of the work is done, the sessions that follow will last no more than an hour and a half.

Scalp micropigmentation is considered by experts to be a painless procedure.

Each person, however, has his/her perception of pain. There are people used to undergoing tattoos who do not experience pain at all during smp; others, however, are not used to it and may experience slight discomfort.

In the latter case, it is possible to apply a numbing cream.

After the treatment

As mentioned above, smp is a non-invasive treatment – there is no anesthesia or surgery – so the client can return to everyday life.

The side effects of scalp micropigmentation are really limited. The client may experience some scalp redness that lasts a few hours, but it is completely normal. If desired, a hat or scarf can be worn to cover the scalp.

After treatment, certain instructions should be followed to promote the healing process of the scalp and achieve the best possible result:

  • The scalp should not come in contact with water for three days after the treatment.
  • During the first 7-10 days, sunbathing and makeup should be avoided on the area.
  • No bathing, swimming or sauna should be done for two weeks after smp.
  • Do not touch or scratch the scalp during the healing process.
  • Avoid intense exercise and subsequent sweating and sun exposure on the scalp.

Risks and complications of smp. How to avoid them

As smp artist, if you can completely avoid any side effects you are halfway through your work.

In addition to getting the look they’ve always desiderd, all clients want a guarantee that there are no side effects after treatment.

The biggest risks of scalp micropigmentation come with inexperience and they usually are:

  • Allergic reaction to pigments
